Apple Crisp

posted Sunday, 4 October 2009

Well, since Catty asked and I have nothing better to write about, here's my recipe for Apple Crisp, modified from Fan Fare, a cookbook put out by the Rochester (NY) Philharmonic Orchestra. We used Granny Smiths, which worked well.

4 cups pared and sliced apples (after the first time, I've been cutting them into pretty small bits)
1/2-3/4 c sugar
1/3 c flour
1 c rolled oats
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 c butter, melted

Preheat oven to 375. Put the apples into a baking dish, stir in the sugar. You may sprinkle some cinnamon onto the apples (I'm told that if you're using sweeter apples, you should add 1 T lemon juice). Mix together all the other ingredients (if using salted sweet cream butter, omit the salt) and sprinkle over top of the apples. Bake for 30 minutes and eat them.  Probably all in one sitting, maybe with ice cream, fro-yo, or a glass of milk, but hey, that's up to you.
