Last night, Lauren made cupcakes to take into school today. Unfortunately, she didn't get them frosted last night and didn't have time to frost them this morning, so instead of practicing for our wedding, she just took some store-bought frosting and a knife along with some of the cupcakes.
I did not take any cupcakes into school today because I did not have school today. While I was home, though, I thought I might try my hand at frosting cupcakes too. You'll recall that Lauren made some pretty flowers the first time we tried this. It didn't seem that hard when she did it. Here are my cupcakes, up 'til I gave up:
Actually, it should be obvious that I gave up in the middle of some cupcakes, only to try again before giving up the project altogether. For whatever reason, I just could not do it. I decided to leave them for Lauren to finish. I ate the worst of them, to spare myself the shame. Right after I photographed them all, to document the shame.
It turns out that I completely misunderstood both how the decorating tip was connected to the bag and how the frosting was supposed to be loaded into it. Knowing either of those things would have helped. Lauren did most of the rest of them, but I did one as well. Can you tell which one?
Yes, mine is the awkward, homely one being ostracized by the other, more beautiful cupcakes.
Thank goodness I have other talents.
I can paint. I can draw. I don't have the patience to decorate baked
goods with frosting. When the kids were little I was known as the mom who
made really ugly cakes that tasted really good. Afterward, when I
inherited my Grandmother's decorating tips, I took a class. This is where
I learned the techniques to decorate with frosting but that I lacked the
patience to do it properly.
if they taste good they all go down the same hole, ha ha
It pays to mess up. Then, you can immediately eat the mistakes! ;^)
