Besides the story of the BMV-scare shared yesterday, Tuesday was just generally a bad day. Which is funny in a way, since I was determined to get up early and have a really productive day. I got up before 7 and got ready to go down to the gym to work out... and quickly realized I didn't feel well. I'd tried to write it off and press on, but I had an upset stomach, aching muscles, and a bit of diarrhea. So I went home, took some Aleve, took a shower, and went back to bed. I continued in pretty much the same vein for the rest of the day, taking a break to deal with car/license issues, one of which was seeing that our insurance had apparently expired without the insurance company letting us know.
So I had to spend time on the phone trying to get it all sorted out. It seemed that they had just sent out our bill today... and we had until Oct 20 to pay the premium. But I had to call back again to make sure that we were actually insured. I think we're going to switch insurance, because I think we can get it cheaper, but for now we needed to go to the library to pick up a fax from the insurance company saying that we did, in fact, have insurance (for some reason, we couldn't print it out from the website).
As a side note here, we continue fighting the war against ants in our kitchen. Over a week ago, I bought some ant poison that the ants seemed intent on ignoring. So I went last Friday to the hardware store to try another brand, one in which I put drops of poison on a little piece of paper. The ants seem to love this stuff. Maybe a little too much: Lauren's starting to worry that we're getting more ants than ever before, and even after several days, they just keep coming. I'd like to think that things have to get worse before they get better, but even I am starting to doubt. They sure seem to be flourishing with the bonanza of poisoned food. Frankly, it kills me to see them so happy, even if I do think they're ultimately doomed. I mean, their satisfaction is real in the present moment; the death of their entire colony is just a twinkle in my eye.
I skipped out on our gardening class and took yet another nap. I got up around the time that the class was, theoretically, ending, and took Beaker out for a walk. We walked down a dark sidewalk, and saw a car coming toward us. I thought it might be Lauren returning from the class, especially when it veered a bit toward us. However, it wasn't. It was, however, close enough to comically splash me and the dog with the water that was, until that moment, on the side of the road.
Really, a pretty fitting cap to the day.
