The days right now are just one big packing party. So far, the total of boxes packed is 54. And counting.
I got out of the house twice today to run missions. First mission: get rid of books at the used bookstore. They wanted less than half of the box-and-a-half I took to them. The killer was that they wouldn't take books that were written in. D'OH! I'm an English teacher, that's what we do!
Frankly, they should pay extra for my brilliant notes.
Then I took books up to the school to leave behind ones that might be useful. Of course, I came home with some more of my own that had been left in my classroom. In fact, I probably brought home more than I took up there. Whoops. I also basically finished cleaning out my classroom. There's some junk there, but I got rid of a fair amount of junk as well as all the things that I mean to take with me. I need to go back one more time to turn in my school-issued laptop, my magical swipe-card, and my keys. I'm working tonight (and probably tomorrow morning) to get all my files from my laptop onto DVDs and my external hard drive.
I also took some time to cook. For dinner, I grilled pork chops and made a rice dish to go with it. I modified a recipe I found online to look approximately like this:
In olive oil, sautee one onion and 1 1/2 cups brown rice. When the onions are translucent, add 1 can (2 cups) chicken broth, 2 cups water, one can cream of mushroom soup mix, 1 tsp marjoram, 1 tsp dried parsley, and salt and pepper to taste. Cook for 40 minutes or so, until liquid is absorbed and rice is tender. You may need more water. Guaranteed to fortify you for the tribulations of packing.
I don't envy you packing! We had to get rid of much when we moved from our
small house into this 4 room apartment. Luckiliy we have an oversized
garage, After 6 yrs. I still have many things left unpacked! Little by
little I've been sorting those boxes out and giving the kids things I've
decided after all this time I'll probably never use again. I've given
some of my books to the library, The used book stores I had grown to love
are no longer in exisistance which saddens me.
Blecccchhhhh. I hate moving. It sounds like you are really in the thick
of things. Good luck. If I was a good neighbor, I'd come to help you, but
I'm going to be busy making that rice. Of course, I'll have to do it while
Honey isn't watching because if he knows it has cream of mushroom soup in
it, he won't eat it.
I've not moved since 1985 and I'd have a devil of a time getting rid of
more than 20 years worth of detritus if I were to move again.
Books that are written in can be invaluable. When I was in college, I
bought all my text books used, of course, but not just because they were
cheaper. I'd park myself on the floor and pore through them until I found
one that had been owned by someone who knew how to highlight and annotate.
Cut my reading time in half!
