Is it just me, or are the Republican and Democratic primaries set up to do fundamentally different things? With most of the Democratic primaries set up to award delegates proportionally, they are set up to do a better job of reflecting the will of Democratic voters, without giving quite as much undue influence to the early primaries. Thus, Hilary Clinton still has a chance to win the nomination and she soldiers on.
The Republican primaries, with their winner-take-all system, are set up for winning the general election by narrowing the field as quickly as possible, giving the Republican nominee more time to build up a "war chest" for the general election and start campaigning for the same.
It's hard for me to dislike a system that is actually more democratic, but I won't be happy if it means we have four more years of Republican rule ahead of us.
I'm worried. I have the feeling that when the Democratic primaries are
over, our candidate will step into the ring still battered and bruised from
this fight, while McCain will be fresh as a daisy.
