Wow, has it been hot or what? We were in the high 80s yesterday and well into the 90s today, with the same expected for tomorrow. We haven't brought our ACs up from the basement, and probably won't since we're moving so soon. Fortunately, heat rises and my upstairs neighbors run their AC like they're keeping meat frozen in their living room. Whatever they're keeping frozen up there, it certainly works for me. With temperatures in the upper 80s yesterday, my apartment was around 68, and today while the outside world hit 90-something, inside 74 or 75 felt downright cool.
Maybe it's the heat or maybe not, but I've been procrastinating on getting my grading done. Students took their exams on Thursday, and I spent the day getting the rest of their work graded and gave myself the day off from grading their exams. Friday I had to get up early to take Lauren to the train station, so she could head to Cleveland for her bridal shower and dress fitting. After getting up so early in the morning, well, I could hardly be expected to get any work done, could I? Then it got so hot, but I did press forward valiantly and get a little bit done yesterday before going to a fun little BBQ up in Massachusetts that a college friend hosted--no doubt to show of their lovely 1790s house with its recently-redone kitchen.
I kept putting the work off today, but finally this evening buckled down and made a significant dent in it, and though it's midnight, I'm not giving up yet. Grades aren't due until Tuesday, but I would love to wake up tomorrow free from that responsibility. At the very least, I expect to have only a little left to do tomorrow.
While procrastinating, I managed to finish a couple books I was working my way through, World Made by Hand by James Howard Kunstler and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseni. I'll probably get around to reviewing them soon, so won't say more now.
Obviously I've been a bad blogger for the past week, but I'll try to change my wicked ways, at least until we move and chaos becomes the order of the day.
Don't change, John. I can think of at least three evenings that I very
much enjoyed your wicked ways.
What were your ACs doing in the basement for? I leave mine in the window
year-round. Just because I'm not using it in the cooler months doesn't
mean I'm going to rip it out of the window each fall, which would only
create unnecessary work for me in the spring.
Yeah, it's true - the BBQ was arranged solely for the purpose of showing
off the kitchen. ha! We were really thrilled that you could make it,
though.
don't know what I would do without sentral air in this apartment! As fas
as I am concerned it got too hot too fast! The humidity is what makes it
so bad. I just hate having my windows closed again. :( I've been taking
my morning walks about 5:30 am.
