What this blog is:

Observations on culture, politics, life in general, and whatever other detritus my keyboard is able to collect from my brain. Sometimes insightful, sometimes witty, sometimes... coherent. Sometimes all of the above.

Its origin:

Back in college, I used to do something vaguely similar called a "plan." You can read more about that here in my first post. This is where the name comes from, as my plan is gone. On the other hand, it's suggestive of the whimsical nature of the blog--it doesn't have a plan guiding its content, it's just whatever I happen to write.

Who I am:

I'm a teacher, composer and--apparently--writer. I mean, I'm writing here right?

Worth knowing about categories:

I've divided things up into four categories: "Serious" for the more thoughtful pieces, "Books" for book reviews, "Movie Reviews" for, well, duh, and "Poetry" for the occasional poem that I end up being briefly obsessed with writing. Most of my writing, though, doesn't go into any of those categories. I might make a category called "Whimsy" or something. Most of my more amusing, humorous pieces aren't categorized yet. Maybe I'll get to it some day, but if I do then this page probably won't say "maybe I'll get to it some day." So it goes.

UPDATE: Added category "Political." As I went back through my old posts to categorize them, I realized that early on I pretty well avoided politics, and when I did talk politics, it was fairly light-hearted, sometimes just silly. As we got closer to Nov. 2, I talked politics more, and my discussions became more serious, even when humorous.

UPDATE 2: I've also added some other categories, including "Food" and "Education," but I haven't done much to go back and organize old entries. So it goes.
