Strange things...

Living in the digital age, our music-making machines are getting smaller and smaller. Mostly, now, my music comes from my iPod. Ditto for my fiancee. As a consequence, we have a number of little speakers around to make the sound come out. We put Fiancee's speakers in the kitchen in case we wanted to hear music while making dinner. When she plugged them in, the power was on, and the weirdest thing happened--she got radio reception! We're just talking about ordinary speakers here, and they were picking up a radio station.

Today, she has a more sinister weird happening. While driving with a teacher from my school out to New Jersey (they hadn't gotten far), she went to roll up the driver's window and... it shattered. Million pieces of broken glass all over as they hurtled down the highway. Despite a few little cuts, she drove on with considerable aplomb, not even crashing a little. Still, no obvious reason why her window should shatter, but there it was.

There was nothing particularly strange about it, but I burned myself today. I just leaned the wrong way over the grill and seared some meat that was still attached to a living beast. I like my meat as rare as anyone, but that was a bit much, frankly. It hurt quite a bit at the time--I ran cold water over it, took some Aleve, and intermittently applied a cold pack to it and now it just feels like a little strip of sunburn around my inner elbow, and I'm an old hand at sunburns, let me tell you. Lousy Irish and German heritage...
