2007 is in the books

posted Friday, 25 January 2008

Back around the new year, I meant to post a list of the books I read in 2007, but I blogged about one thing and another instead and never got around to it. However, as the hour creeps up toward midnight and I still haven't figured out anything better to post about, so...

I suppose 2007 was a fairly average year with 32 books last year. I'd like to think it's a down year, since in 2003 I read 60 and had 51 in 2002, but I guess I have to admit that those were aberrations, because my trends since then look like this:

2004: 35
2005: 25
2006: 39

So maybe it's a bit down, but that's not surprising considering that I was teaching new classes during significant parts of that year, moving, and all that. Largely, I read fiction this year, and much of that was fantasy (23). Four would fall under "literature" (though some of the fantasy was better than some of the lit!), while 3 are general non-fiction, plus 1 each of building and science. Without further ado, here's what I read:

Kurt Vonnegut Slaughterhouse Five
Kurt Vonnegut Cat’s Cradle
Steven Erikson The Gardens of the Moon
Evans, Smith, and Smiley The Hand-Sculpted House
Steven Erikson Deadhouse Gates
Steven Erikson Memories of Ice
