Easter '08

posted Sunday, 23 March 2008

If I'm not mistaken, this is as early in the calendar year as Easter can come; here, at least, coming this early it doesn't seem like a holiday that has anything to do with spring. I took the dog outside for a good walk mid-morning and my hands were frozen.

If you'd like to work your brain a little, there's the Easter Quiz to which I directed readers in some previous years. It sometimes seems more like hair-splitting than questions that will actually make you think, but some of them certainly should.

And if you're up for a good bit of reading and a good bit of skepticism today (not that I expect you to be, I'm just offering), there's an interesting and detailed essay by one Richard Carrier called "Why I Don't Buy the Resurrection Story." Or, if you'd be more interested in the possibility of Jesus coming back a second time, you might check out Edward Babinski's "The Lowdown on God's Showdown."

I wanted to contribute some original thoughts on Easter, but I don't think I'm going to have time to whip my thoughts into proper shape. Maybe later this week, maybe next year, or maybe I'll keep it to myself.

We've had a nice enough day--we went out for brunch to a place that only does breakfast, and it was really good (and a good price for Providence, too!). We're still hoping to snag some Cadbury Eggs before the day's over, though the local convenience store came up empty for me.
