Dog Update

posted Wednesday, 16 July 2008

We got a call from the doctor this morning before Beaker's surgery and another around 2:30 this afternoon when it was finished. He said it went well: there was some bruising of the spinal cord, but the operation itself went well and there was nothing unexpected. The prognosis is that she should be feeling pretty good within a week but will need to be kept to minimal activity for the next 6-8 weeks, and should have a full or near-full recovery when it's all said and done. Here's hoping, anyway, though she's such an active dog that weeks and weeks of confinement won't be easy on her. Although there was nothing new to report, we appreciated getting an evening update: she'd come out of sedation fine. We may be able to pick her up as soon as tomorrow, but they could also decide to keep her for a few days--with as cute and good-natured as she is, I wouldn't blame them.

Knowing that we'll be more or less tied up with her care once she comes home, we went out to the Monroeville Mall to exchange a few items from the wedding. We ended up planning our alternative purchases so well that we only spent $6 of our own money and got a bunch of things that we needed to get anyway.
