Sorry to be so thematic, but my kids are doing Wordsworth and I just can't resist this delightful poem from a guy that I think is an Ohio poet. This is David Garrison's "Words' Worth." I actually rather like Wordsworth, but it doesn't mean that this poem and yesterday's don't amuse me. Nobody'd better mess with my boy John Keats though!
First prize
in the sixth grade contest
went to Mary
for a poem
About her best friend,
second to Richard
for his personification
of trees.
In third place
was Charlie,
who, not understanding
or ignoring the rules,
turned in
an obscure poem
by William Wordsworth.
