Quick update

Life with dog continues to go well. She was outside with the other dog almost all day, plus it was nice and hot out, so she's just plain worn out. Yes! She had her first accident today (no!); actually, it's hard to call it an accident--she clearly intended to squat down and poo on my floor, but actually I have to take full responsibility. You see, I took her out for her morning ritual of waste elimination, but I brought her in when she was only half done. The intention was to feed her, take her out to finish her business, and then put her with the other dog. I got as far as feeding her and then I got distracted by some other concerns. Next thing I know, there she is all hunched over. I was only mad at her for a brief flash before I admitted it was my fault. You get a puppy on a schedule, you've really got to keep the puppy on the schedule.

Speaking of dog, I got a call from the realtor who showed us the place we fell in love with but had forgotten to ask about pets. He'd talked to the owner, who said that our small dog might be okay. I had to offer some assurances that she's small and going to stay small and that she wasn't one of those crazy continually-barking dogs. I gather we'll try to bring her and the homeowner together for a "meet and greet" and we'll see from there. If that turns out not to work even so, it's okay. I saw a couple apartments yesterday that rose to the top of what was then the list. No place is perfect, but the places I saw yesterday are pretty darned good. We'll see.

I learned some new notes on the alto recorder. The impetus? I wanted to learn the solo for "Stairway to Heaven," which sounds pretty clearly like an alto recorder. I found on-line a version someone had figured out; I tweaked it a little where I was pretty sure it needed tweaking, and then I set about learning the new notes that I would need. In the process, as I discovered how hard it is to make the high notes sound good, I stumbled across this site that offers an on-line tutorial. Some of it I'd figured out on my own already, but there was some useful technique stuff nonetheless. I'll say it again, though: it sure helps to come into this already knowing a thing or two about music.
