Samsara

Let me preface this by saying that I don't know much about Hinduism. However, if they actually believe that being reincarnated as a dog is a step backward on the karmic ladder, all I can say is that they weren't thinking of our dog.

Consider just her wake-up routine: unless she ordains it otherwise by waking me up to take her outside, she is always the last one in the family out of bed. When she is finally awoken, she receives an extended belly rub / ear-scratching session that--while it doesn't go on indefinitely as she would no doubt prefer--goes on quite a while.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind waking up to the attentions of my own personal masseuse every day! So if being reincarnated as a dog is a step away from attaining Nirvana, well, for our dog, at least, it's heaven enough for this earth.

I, on the other hand, get woken up by the blaring of the alarm. Such massage as I get is doled out by the shower head, and then I have to go to work rather than lay around all day or play with my toys, which is what she has to look forward to.

Of course, with my luck, if I make a special request to come back in my next life as a dog, I'll probably end up as Michael Vick's pooch.
