Thanksgiving Recap

posted Friday, 23 November 2007

Although my cold intensified today, I felt pretty darn good yesterday. Maybe it had something to do with what a nice Thanksgiving Lauren and I had together. Although I helped with the preparations, she was the one who really spear-headed yesterday's meal, gathering the recipes, running things in the kitchen, and doing the lion's share of the preparations. Everything turned out really well. Our 13-pound bird looked like this:

Our Turkey

It browned nicely without burning thanks to our judicious use of aluminum foil and basting. What looks like green discoloration there is not some kind of fungus (bleu cheese turkey?? no!)--it's the herbs we rubbed under the turkey's skin. This was quite possibly the most moist turkey I've ever eaten, and we managed to get it done but keep it juicy even without the aid of a meat thermometer, which is fortunate, since we neglected to buy one. The rest of the spread looked like this:

Thanksgiving Dinner

From the upper left, there's a pumpkin pie next to our dressing, then mashed sweet potatoes, some of the turkey, and a cranberry-orange relish. Except for the turkey itself, everything came from Weight Watchers recipes and was made from scratch. Don't let the WW label fool you though: we certainly didn't feel like we were denying ourselves here! Every single thing was absolutely wonderful and we made up for any caloric savings we might have had by stuffing as much of each dish into our abdomens as we possibly could. We didn't have nearly as many leftovers as we expected, but we're not in the least dreading them.

Here's hoping you all had wonderful Thanksgivings in your respective necks of the woods.

Looks yummy, but frankly, I want to see pictures of people, tummies stuffed or not. Glad to see your Thanksgiving repast was a sight to behold (and a meal to remember).
