Thursday Think 'n' Share LXXXII

posted Thursday, 8 February 2007
At this point it's an on-going note: I have been using the "Couples" edition and most of those were of general interest, which seemed like a good idea since I didn't want to make this feature inaccessible to people who aren't part of a couple. Still, my desire for new wonderful questions puts me in a quandry, so for the time being I will be posing some questions that are phrased as being about your "mate." It's a somewhat unfortunate phrasing, I think, but for our purposes we will take it to mean everything from "spouse" to "significant other" to "primary lover" and any other designation I may have missed that seems applicable to you. Likewise, recognizing that not everyone has (or wants) such a thing, you are certainly welcome to answer these questions with regards to a former spouse/significant other/primary lover or a hypothetical future one of these. Or, for that matter, you're welcome to take the opportunity to offer the rest of us advice if none of the above works for you.
What do you think is your mate's favorite color?
Uh... blue?
In what ways could you improve communication between you and your mate?
By finding out things like what her favorite color is....
Complete the statement: "One thing I keep telling my mate is..."
"...stop. Hey, I said stop!"

Actually listen instead of formulating one's reply while the other is talking.

...Stop working so hard.

My mate wouldn't have such a thing. He just doesn't think about stuff like that. Ever.

LMAO. Well, all those PhD level professionals didn't help. I just go along with his world and don't expect him to see mine.

I keep telling my mate... "We are separated. We've been separated for two years. We aren't back together. We're not getting back together. To get back together we'd have to talk about it first." That usually takes care of that.

This one wasn't so bad. :)

Blue. I need to be more honest about what I'm really feeling. "You're not listening!"

Okay, so I asked him yesterday if he had a favorite color (after all, we've only been married for 25 years). I was wrong to assume (knowing him as I do) that he just wasn't the type to even have a favorite color, to care about such silly things, because he answered, without any hesitation, "Blue." O-K!

Actually tell him what I'm thinking instead of blaming myself for everything

"Go the the doctor" or "Take your medicine" (although not in a creepy "The Shining" sort of way)
