Thursday Think 'n' Share XCIII (or Friday Think 'n' Share IX)

I really meant to get this out yesterday, but I fell asleep much earlier than I intended (basically, I had no evening after 9:30 last night). Sometimes, you just need to sleep, I guess. In honor of my English class's reading of Neil Postman's Technopoly, it's a technology-themed Think 'n' Share.

Complete this sentence: "Technology is..."

more of a mixed blessing than most of us usually realize.

Complete this sentence: "The best technology ever invented is..."

probably the printing press. It changed the world and largely did so for the better.

What is the most frustrating piece of technology for you (either from using it yourself or from the use to which others put it)?

Probably the cell phone. As a culture, we haven't really adapted to it. People with cell phones seem to think that because they can take them anywhere that they should. Too many people don't seem to know how to turn the ringer to "silent" or have any good idea of when it's appropriate to talk on the phone and when it's not. In the movie theater, for instance--can't you just turn off your phone for an hour and a half? Anyone who needs to talk to you can wait; there's no text message that's so important that you need to be burning your little digital torch in the darkness of the theater in order to answer it. If there is something so important, maybe you shouldn't be at a movie theater.

I could probably go on and on about cell phones... so I won't.

Technology is very frustrating. Do we really need phones that take a month of training to be used? Best technology-the wheel, it started us down the road of more, faster, better,(though not always positive) and it is applied to so many products. Yea, I meant that. I'm with you on the cell phone. Plus any phone is practically useless to the hearing impaired. Unless you have the "special" phone.
