Thursday Think 'n' Share XCVII

posted Thursday, 26 July 2007

Earlier this week, we were encouraged to celebrate [winter holiday of our choice] in July, as our teacher at this workshop gave us a miniature library, courtesy of publishers who would love to have us use their materials. Thirteen books in all, most of them better classified as tomes, they were so large (as literature anthologies are wont to be). This is sheer coincidence to the fact that today's questions include holidays, books (at least for me), and things we've always wanted.

How do you like to celebrate holidays? Why?

It depends a lot on the holiday. Christmas and Thanksgiving, for instance, are more family-oriented holidays, and I like to spend them accordingly, but I'm pretty laid back about most other holidays--I appreciate the day off if I get one for the holiday, but I can spend it "celebrating" with others or just relaxing and taking it easy.

Complete the statement: Something I collect is______________.

I don't really collect much of anything any more. When I was 8 or so, I collected baseball cards, and some years after that until sometime into at least my freshman year of college, I collected comic books. I suppose that to look at the apartment my fiancee and I share, you'd say that I collect books, but I don't do so in any "collectible" kind of way--no plastic bags or hunting for first editions or signed copies or anything--I just have a lot of them.

What is something you have always wanted to try but never did?

I suppose "becoming a published writer" fits the bill best, since it was something I started wanting way back in elementary school (thus, it comes closest to fitting the "always" stipulation) and I've certainly never made any serious attempts to do so, beyond writing some short stories back in college--stories which I didn't try very hard to get published, and probably for good reason.

So what about you? Leave your answers in the comments.
